  • First Couple to Register and First Region to Register 100 Couples

The first couple to register and the first region to register 100 couples will win awards and special recognition during the presentation of contest winners at the end of the Conference.  Please note that couples must be fully paid (payments by check have to be cleared by the bank) before the Registration Team considers a registration complete.

The following are the regions qualified for this competition:

North Central A Region (MN, WI, MI)
North Central B Region (IA, MO, IL, IN)
North East A Region (ME,VT,NH,MA,RI,CT,NJ,NY)
North East B Region* (DC, DE, MD, OH, PA-E, PA-W, VA-N, VA-S, WV)
North West A Region (WA-W, WA-E, OR, ID)
North West B Region (MT, WY, ND, SD)
South Central A Region (CO, NE, KS)
South Central B Region (MS, OK,TX-N,TX-S,LA-N,LA-S)
South East A Region (AR, KY, TN, NC, SC)

* Registrations from the host area (VA-N) will not be counted as part of the North East B region.  Likewise, couples from the host area are not qualified to win the First Couple to Register award.

 

  • Banner Competition (FRIDAY NIGHT)
  1. The competition is open to all Regional areas of Couples for Christ USA.  The regional areas are:

North Central A Region (MN, WI, MI)
North Central B Region (IA, MO, IL, IN)
North East A Region (ME,VT,NH,MA,RI,CT,NJ,NY)
North East B Region (DC, DE, MD, OH, PA-E, PA-W, VA-N, VA-S, WV)
North West A Region (WA-W, WA-E, OR, ID)
North West B Region (MT, WY, ND, SD)
South Central A Region (CO, NE, KS)
South Central B Region (MS, OK,TX-N,TX-S,LA-N,LA-S)
South East A Region (AR, KY, TN, NC, SC)

South West A Region (AK, CA-N, NV, UT)

  1. Dimensions of the banner must be 36 inch Width x 48 inch Height. 
  1. The material to be used shall be at the discretion of the respective region.  Use of recycled, reusable, eco-friendly materials is strongly encouraged.   
  2. Banner design must depict the 2018 CFC Conference theme “Solemn Charge”.  The only standard element that must be included in all banners is the official CFC logo. The respective regions may use any other design or print (e.g., state symbols) as long as is it is not contradictory to the values of CFC or the teachings of the Catholic Church. The name of the region must be prominent, and the name “Couples for Christ” or the acronym “CFC” must be presented in the banner.  
  3. Points shall be deducted for every violation of the rules (dimension and content). 
  4. 10 points shall be awarded to banners that made use of recycled, reusable, eco-friendly materials. 
  5. Each Region must confirm participation by June 5th, 2018.  Late submission will be forfeited from the competition. Please confirm your participation by sending an e-mail to competitions@cfcvirginia.org with subject line: “2018 CFC USA Conference Banner Competition” and include your Regional Area and Point-of-Contact(s) (preferably 2 persons). 
  6. Banners must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on July 6, 2018 to the Competitions Table for banner display sequence assignment. Please submit digital photo of the banner (hi-res in JPG or PNG format)  to competitions@cfcvirginia.org on July 4th, two days prior to conference. Banner photos will be shown on the LED screen during the Banner display.

Criteria for Judging:

  • Creativity and Originality – 35 points  
    • Concept is imaginative and original 
  • Relevance to Theme – 35 points  
    • Artwork and design clearly demonstrate theme    
  • Visual Impact – 20 points  
    • Lettering and artwork are bold and clear; captures attention of viewer. Careful work with attention to detail; clean presentation 
  • Use of Recycled Materials – 10 points  
    • Use of recycled material must be present in the banner
  • TOTAL – 100 points

 

  • Dance Competition (SATURDAY NIGHT)

This year’s theme for the CFC Conference Saturday Night Social is The Inaugural Ball and what better way than to have it in – Historic Virginia.

Our evening social event will start with a 2018 dance competition on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Dance genre/type must coincide with the theme from Rhythm (Salsa, Swing, Jive), to Latin (Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo) and to Smooth (Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz) dances just to name a few.

  1. The competition is open to all Couples for Christ (USA) regional areas. Competition entry must be by region.  The regional areas are:

North Central A Region (MN, WI, MI)
North Central B Region (IA, MO, IL, IN)
North East A Region (ME,VT,NH,MA,RI,CT,NJ,NY)
North East B Region (DC, DE, MD, OH, PA-E, PA-W, VA-N, VA-S, WV)
North West A Region (WA-W, WA-E, OR, ID)
North West B Region (MT, WY, ND, SD)
South Central A Region (CO, NE, KS)
South Central B Region (MS, OK,TX-N,TX-S,LA-N,LA-S)
South East A Region (AR, KY, TN, NC, SC)
South East B Region (AL, GA, FL, PR, US-VI)
South West A Region (AK, CA-N, NV, UT)
South West B Region (HI, CA-S, AZ, NM)

  1. All participating groups must be composed of registered conference attendees. There should only be a maximum of 6 couples in each participating group (12 persons).
  2. Use a maximum of 3-minute choreography to the dance music of the group’s choice.
  3. The choreography should incorporate the theme of the conference, “Solemn Charge” or the scriptural handle “Rekindle the Gift…Fulfill Your Ministry”.
  4. Subliminal, sexually suggestive, and vulgar actions are strictly prohibited. The dance routine must not pose any danger to the performers and audience.
  5. The dimensions of the stage to be confirmed (the maximum stage the conference center can provide is 15 X 30’).
  6. Music can be religious or secular, must be lively, and must not contain inappropriate language.
  7. Competing teams shall submit a soft copy of their music in mp3 format, no later than June 1st, 2018 to competitions@cfcvirginia.org. The music must already be trimmed down to 3 minutes or less.
  8. In the case of the same song being chosen by two or more teams, the team who signed up first shall use the song. The other teams will be informed accordingly.
  9. All participating groups must also bring a backup copy of their music in a thumb drive or other device that the audio technician can easily plug in and play.
  10. Costume must be coordinated with the dance type. No indecent/revealing/skimpy costumes.
  11. Props may be used to enhance the routine, subject to restrictions* of the conference center. Use of props must not pose any danger to the performers and audience, leave a mess to the conference center, or cause delay to the program. 

Preparation: 

  1. A preparation time with a maximum of 1 minute, upon the signal of the Stage Managers, shall be given each regional area.
  2. The respective teams shall be responsible for clearing the performance area immediately after their routine, and are given 1 minute to do so.  

Criteria for Judging: 

Creativity and choreography 30 points  This refers to the artistic ability to convey ideas on movements and the creativity of steps and formations
Performance and Technique 30 points This refers to the team’s display of unity, energy, precision of actions, spacing, coordination and timing.
Relevance / Message 20 points This refers to how the group incorporated the theme of the conference in their performance.
Costumes and props 20 points This refers to the creativity, props and costume of performers.
Grand Total: 100 points

Deductions: 

Points will be deducted from the total score for: 

1. Grandstanding (staying on the performance area for too long, beyond 1 minute, before and after performance). 

2. Number of performers exceed limit of 12 persons 

3. Performances that exceed 3 minutes. 

4. Lewd gestures and movements 

5. Use of prohibited costume and props
